Yomi Robotic-Assisted Dental Implant Surgery

Alabama Oral and Facial Surgery are excited to now offer the first Robotic-Assisted Dental Implant Surgery in the State. The Yomi Robot is now changing dental implant dentistry as the first robotic guidance system for dental surgery. It allows the oral surgeon to gain a level of unprecedented accuracy and give the patient the best quality dental implant. See more about this robotic assistant and watch the doctors use the Yomi below.

Why YOMI?

One of the reasons that we invested in the YOMI technology is because there have been many cases during my oral surgical career where implants have been needed, yet we weren’t able to strategically place them without this robot-assisted technology. The YOMI robot is the first truly robot-assisted implant placement technology in the country, and we’re fortunate to have the first one in Alabama and several surrounding states.

Below are the most frequently asked questions regarding YOMI.

What are some of the advantages?

From a patient’s perspective, one of the great things about it is; it’s a minimally invasive surgery and less invasive than the traditional implant surgery. When using Yomi’s precise technology it allows us to:

  • Plan the surgery ahead of time
  • Know the exact implant placement
  • Know where all the anatomical structures are located
  • Avoiding nerves and sinuses.

We like to say when placing the implant; you start from the crown down and always starting with the end in mind. We map out what we think the dentist final restoration is going to look like and then we create the optimal place for the implant.

What technologies does it use?

One of the other reasons that we decided Yomi was a good investment for our practice is, it combines several of the later technologies in dentistry that we’ve been able to offer. 3D CT’s, implants and guided implant surgery kind of melded together into one package.

How does the new technology help the patient?

Instead of coming in to get a 3D scan for a guide to be printed and sent back from a lab, we use the C.T. scans (which have been used in dentistry for years) in our office for accuracy.  Implants have been around 40 plus years and are proven and shown to be the best restoration in dentistry.  Implants are superior to crowns, bridges, and root canals.  So rather than waiting weeks for the guided surgery, we utilize the robotics system and the surgery is finished it in a matter of minutes or hours. Our patients receive the best experience during surgery with precise accuracy and minimal invasiveness. The dentist can get a perfect placement and give the patient final restoration that would be superior to anything that can be done free handed.
